Auto Insurance Requirements

In the state of California, vehicle owners must obtain the minimum required coverage to be considered legal. All auto insurance policies must be covered with at least the following:

Bodily injury coverage of $15,000 for each person and $30,000 for each accident
Property damage liability of at least $5,000
Uninsured motorist injury coverage of at least $15,000 for each person and $30,000 for each accident
Uninsured motorist property damage of at least $3,500

Everyone has unique insurance needs, as these are just the minimum requirements you must meet. You can always opt-in for higher coverage limits.

Additional Coverage

You may also choose to obtain higher coverage limits such as:

Comprehensive- This coverage will protect you if your car is damaged due to fire, theft, vandalism, and other non-collision-related accidents.
Collision- This coverage will protect you if your car is damaged due to an accident with another motorist.
Uninsured/underinsured- This coverage will protect you if you are involved with another motorist who has no insurance or not enough insurance to cover damages and is at fault for an accident.
